This is my personal learning theme for my Lamar University Masters in Education Digital Learning and Leading program.
I am going to keep this as a quick outline.
I was born in Dallas and raised in a north suburb of Carrollton. Today it’s one of the largest cities in Texas with over 119,000 people. My parents got divorced when I was five and my dad got custody of me. My mom lived close by and I saw both parents regularly. My dad became a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) President sometime during elementary and was very active in my school.
Going to school in Carrollton in the Lewisville ISD was fantastic. The teachers were hands-on and caring about my education. There were lots of resources for me to achieve my best. Then I went to high school at The Colony for my freshman year. I didn’t like it so I switched to Carrollton Christian Academy in 1997 in my sophomore year. There I met a lot of caring friends, one of whom was the best man in my wedding and I was the best man in his wedding too!
I learned a lot about myself in those three years focusing on a Christ-like education. We had bible class five days a week and chapel once a week. During this time I grew in my responsability, patience, perseverance, and more.
Through my mom and dad’s help I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2003 with a BFA in Radio Television and a minor in Journalism. Currently I’m enrolled at Lamar University in their Master's Education Program for Digital Learning and Leading.
My personal learning theme is to learn what I need to know to help others in digital education. This is my first job in education. My current job is Video Production for Campus Support. I make training videos and other fun videos to support campuses. My office is inside the Instructional Center where my coworkers have over 10 years experience in education with either a Master's degree or Doctoral degree. I feel motivated and inspired to achieve my dream of getting a Master’s degree.
Looking to the future, I see my job and school district advancing toward digital education. Currently we support online classes with a goal to do more.
