Reflective on my "Call to action."
While creating my “call to action” assignment for 5388 I am reflecting on how I’ve grown as an educator in my innovation plan. I’m studying for a master’s degree in education from Lamar University. In this program I am to be authentic in my learning showing fresh awareness of my curriculum and instruction.
My innovation plan is to teach teachers how to make videos for their own class. This could be for a lesson, a hello video, or a wrap-up video that parents can see too. In my video I am motivated to not let teachers let someone else teach their class. The majority of teachers are showing videos someone else made in their class (Kaltura, 2016). As more and more schools are embracing blended learning, there is a real need to teach everyone video production skills. Today’s smartphone includes a high quality video camera and free video editing software. Couple that with free video hosting and you have a great foundation for my innovation plan.
Since I’m teaching video, I made a commercial as my call to action. But, I did so in a way that was accessible to a busy teacher. I purposefully put my five year old on my lap to distract me, to show that I can make a video one handed, in the whirlwind of being a parent.
I created my video using Apple Clips on my iPhone 7. As new technology comes out I will adjust my training to keep up with the next generation of hardware and software. My teaching will be as innovative as the tech industry, with multiple iterations.
I am focused on the learning process of my end users. I will pre-plan for their needs. As Duarte said “I’m going to be hyper focused on my audience.” What their needs are, where they’re at, and where they want to go.
My innovation plan is over 30 years in the making. From when I first discovered how video can transform our culture, economy, and more. Teachers work hard to provide the best opportunity for their students. Making a video is a skill they need to know in today’s classroom.
