No Internet - and I'm freaking out

So today before I started work I called Comcast and canceled my internet and cable TV. I'm a single dad who is at work, or busy on the weekend with my 5 year old son. My needs are constantly adjusting and I think this would be a good experiment.

My Comcast contract is up and I'll save about $100 a month. I had a double play bundle of internet and tv. Here's the cost break down...

Isn't that crazy? I would spend about a hour a night, and about 10 hours on the weekend using this service (local channels only.) As much as I liked it, I think now is the time to experience life without it.

Previously when I had more people in my house I was paying $150 a month with internet, TV and HBO. (Let's be honest... there's TV then there's HBO.)

I called Comcast yesterday and they showed that I was a loyal customer since 2005! I've forgotten it's been that long. That's back when I recorded and watched "The West Wing" everyday.

Today my needs are this.

1. Kill time after work

2. Entertainment on the long weekends and work breaks

3. Internet for my continuing education

I will try a mobile hotspot from Tmobile. It's $75 a month with a $50 dollar discount (confusing right?).

I couldn't find my internet usage data. Comcast has a soft cap of 100GB a month of usage. Then they throttle you to slower speeds.

I pay for HBO Now which is $15 a month through my Apple ID.

I share a Netflix account with my friend. (Shhhh. I share my HBO with him too.)

And I share a WWE Network account ("For how much Michael Cole? $9.99! I love it Maggle!") <-- Inside joke for WWE fans.

Over the past year I haven't watched much live TV. I've been going to church more. I go for walks at the malls. There are over 6 malls I can think of. It's great for me. I'm an extrovert and I get my energy from being around people. I was really happy with Comcast. Internet for me was 99% reliable. The picture was great! I just got a "smart" TV.

I'm so excited for this new "challenge" of no internet, no cable tv, no home phone. How will I adapt to this new limitation I'm putting on myself?

Not everyone in Houston is lucky enough to have internet, much less TV. This isn't a sacrifice. I'm still sensitive to lives of others who aren't as fortunate. I will take this time and find more information of what this new life will offer.

If you're reading this post and you're interested in affordable internet at home. I ask you consider Comcast Internet Essentials. You will need to show proof to be accepted. https://www.internetessentials.com/

My old life was about 10 hours of TV when I wasn't at work. What will my new life look like? Should I chart that and make a graph? Maybe I'll keep a notebook by my TV and chart what I'm doing.

So, that's it. It's a new life. I can always go back to Comcast.

Looking at their "Offers" page, (https://www.xfinity.com/learn/offers) their cheapest plan is $50 a month with local channels or $60 with 140 channels.

I'm really going to miss Comcast. There wasn't a more relaxing way to spend the day. I'm going to miss my ESPN mornings, my live news, exciting shows, etc.

Maybe now I'll have time to pick up a new hobby or something. Leave a comment what I should do!
