This photo was taken by the Houston Chronicle in Pasadena but it's a project we're implementing here at Klein ISD. The so-called kinesthetic furniture, or active-based learning equipment is a God send for today's teachers. Allowing our student's the ability to get rid of excess energy, hopefully allows them to perform better and retain knowledge.
Speaking of my personal learning history, I was regularly singled out for being a disruption. There's even a photo of me in our yearbook of my desk right in front of the teacher's desk because I was so distracting.
What's funny is, even though my desk was right in front of the teacher's I still fidgeted and kicked her metal desk repeatedly. Leading to a loud BANG every other minute.
Aaaaand, my boss Jenny is quoted by the Chronicle too! Teachers are transforming their classrooms to meet student's needs! I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this district!
Now let's look at the research! "A 2008 study found that children actually need to move to focus during a complicated mental task." - http://www.nea.org/tools/47003.htm
I have been in a dozen Transform Classrooms at Klein ISD and they say students are less disruptive and more engaged when they're able to fidget throughout the day.
