Kudos from my professor
As you know I'm taking classes at Lamar University to earn my Master's in Education. I'm learning about blended learning and how we can get away from poor teaching practices. We have a good group in our class and he highlighted some of our brilliant ideas! (Ok, he didn't say we were brilliant. ;-)
Here's what he said
"Dwayne Harapnuik
Great Collaboration & Discussion!
I really enjoyed reviewing your discussions on progressive education over the past week. It is clear from the following excerpts that we still have a long way to go and much work to do to change the system:
"...fresh start to wipe out standardized testing..."
"These are battles we as educators face everyday, the desire and need to improve our education system. "
"...no one ever actually supports implementing their ideas. Then we wonder why nothing ever changes."
"...revert to the familiar. Everyone ends up doing what was done to them"
"...We've got to move people from an erudition mindset to an experimentation mindset."
"...allow students to get "behind the wheel" "
"...Things only stay the same when we allow ourselves to wallow and think we can't change anything."
"...many schools are willing to put money into purchasing the technology but then aren’t willing to put money into the most important part, which is training. "
"I still feel that students do learn best when they are touching, experiencing, or are actively involved in something that is new or can be directly applied to their life."
I think it is also clear that we have lots of opportunity to start fixing the system. This is where your innovation plans come in. What are you going to do about all these challenges?
Once again - great discussions!
Regards
Dwayne"
